“The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority identified a range of concerns at Owenvale Court Residential Care Home in west Belfast earlier this year.

RQIA issued notices of failure to comply with regulations to the care provider, and also placed conditions on the registration of the service.

The conditions including an order that St John of God stop taking new admissions to the home until it demonstrated it was in compliance with regulations.

The authority says inspections at Owenvale Court increased significantly over the past few months.

An elderly woman died following a fire at the home last month – RQIA has since issued a notice to cancel St John of God’s registration in relation to Owenvale Court.

In a statement to RTÉ News, RIQA said St John of God was co-operating fully with it and the Belfast Trust to identify a new provider to take over the running of the service.”
